Being on the Hudson School Board is an ongoing learning experience - part of that "life-long learning" that I believe in! It can be challenging to work through hard issues for students and parents. Sometimes people have divergent and yet deeply held beliefs that we must navigate. After hearing from different voices and opinions, oftentimes you must make tough decisions. Ultimately, problem solving with board members and parents, working through different options, and forming good solutions is the goal.
The BEST part of the school board is when students come to visit! Some kids come with teachers to demonstrate new teaching techniques or curriculum. Some students share their experiences in activities like Battle of the Books. Students from the high school regularly visit to share about Fall, Winter and Spring sports & activities. High School actors often perform pieces from the current musical.
Students share their successes, challenges and what they've learned from activities. They talk about how to be a good winner, how to meet disappointment, and even simply how to be a "good sport." It reminds me that not all learning occurs in the classroom!
